NEWS IN BRIEF
Trekking for change | On May 26 2019,
corporate leaders from around Brisbane
will gather to walk 22.5kms together for
CPL’s We’ll Make A Change Trek. The
trekkers are challenged to raise money in
support of people living with disability and
their families. Check out CPL’s Facebook
page for updates along the way!
National Volunteers Week | We’re looking
forward to celebrating National Volunteer
Week during 20-26 May 2019! We want to
acknowledge the tremendous impact
these generous people have on CPL and
our community. If you are interested in
volunteering, visit volunteers.cpl.org.au
Coffee crews cruising in style | There
has been a lot of excitement for the
Mylestones Solutions coffee cart crews in
Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, as they
received newly branded coffee carts
earlier this year! There are Mylestones
coffee carts in multiple locations across
Queensland, creating employment
opportunities for Queenslanders who
have barriers to work. Want to know
more? Visit us at mylestones.org.au
Reasonable & Necessary | Since
December 2018, galleries across
Queensland have been hosting an
exhibition of works from the artists of
CPL’s Artel studio in Redcliffe. This
exhibition is called Reasonable &
Necessary: prints and artist books by Artel
artists. The next stop for this exhibition is
the Coalface Gallery in Moranbah (1 May –
30 June) and then it’s off to the Tanks Arts
Centre in Cairns (26 July – 18 August).
SCCC Update
Terry Donaldson, Chair of the State Client Consultative Committee, brings you this
latest update.
2019 is off to a great start and there are a
lot of exciting topics up for discussion
with the State CCC over the coming
months.
Though there is undoubtedly room for
improvement with the NDIS, the State
CCC would like to acknowledge the
positive outcomes to date. Perhaps the
most significant change is people no
longer being restricted to a certain
location, activity, or provider. On the topic
of choice, options for accessible housing
are growing as new properties are
developed. Plus, employment is becoming
more and more achievable as pathways
like Mylestones Solutions open up, and
barriers with employers come down.
This change is the result of discussion, of
people speaking up about what they want
or need.
The State CCC strongly encourages
everyone to get involved in these
discussions. One current opportunity to
be heard is the Ability Forum, a space for
people to share opinions and feedback on
the NDIS and the disability services they
access. To have your say, visit
abilityforum.org.au
