When Brianna Grice was coming up to her
high school graduation, she wasn’t sure
what to do next. With so many pathways
to choose from, and some barriers to
overcome, she feared she may struggle to
find her place in the working world. As
Brianna’s disability meant reading and
writing was a challenge, there were very
few options that didn’t involve daunting
things like study, applications or
paperwork.
It was a relief for Brianna when she
entered a program offered to students
who have a disability, and met the team at
Mylestones Employment. Brianna was able
to find her first job through Mylestones
and after working for a while she got an
idea of where she would like to go next.
“I got my Certificate III in Community Care,
a Blue Card, and a First Aid Certificate
with Mylestones,” Brianna said.
“By the time I finished my courses, I knew I
wanted work somewhere I could use my
training.”
Brianna shared her newfound goal with
the Mylestones team and they worked
with her to make it happen.
At the same time, Andrew Nankivell and
his wife Elise approached Mylestones to
find a new employee for their business,
Pink Ribbon Maids, a cleaning service
based on the Sunshine Coast. Andrew
hadn’t worked with Mylestones before,
but he knew of other great workers in his
industry who had been hired through

them, so he thought it might work for him
too. And it did.
Mylestones paired Brianna with Pink
Ribbon Maids.
Brianna is excited to have found a job that
is meaningful to her, because in her new
role she cleans the homes of people with
disabilities and elderly people.
“We also do free cleaning for people with
cancer who have just come home from
hospital,” Brianna said.
From the day she started, Andrew has
been thrilled with Brianna’s attitude and
work ethic.
“She has exceeded all expectations.
Brianna shows up on time every day in
her uniform with a big smile,” Andrew said.
Andrew and Elise have big plans for
Brianna; to them she is an investment.
They are taking the time to train her and
build her confidence in the job before
giving her more responsibility.
“For me, it’s about giving people
somewhere they can grow. I think it’s so
important to help the community and
create opportunities for people,” said
Andrew.
“If you’re willing to put the time and effort
into a person, you will see results.”
Everyone deserves the opportunity to
find meaningful employment and, with the
right support, there is no limit to what
people can achieve.
