We know school holidays can
be daunting and parents might
find themselves thinking; “how
do I balance everything? How
do I keep the kids entertained?
When does school start back
again?” We’ve put together some
tips and tricks for surviving these
school holidays.
Our number one tip is to create a schedule to keep some routine in each day. Routine
is so important for kids (and adults!) of all abilities. Give them some structure with a
white board of what’s happening tomorrow – we think they’ll love it!
Whether it’s a rainy day or you just want to stay at home and play, here are some home
activities for the whole family to join in on:
• Sensory indoor tray play: use a plastic box filled with different things like dried
beans, sand, shaving foam, or toothpaste for sensory play. The kids can even close
their eyes and guess what they are touching!
• Make a texture book using materials with different textures like wall paper, sand
paper, bubble wrap, felt, and feathers.
• Build a fort - get everyone involved making a fort and fill it with everyday items such
as old CDs, tinsel, fairy lights, pillows and favourite toys to create a great sensory
space.
• A good ol’ dance competition – play some funky tunes and whip out your best
moves!
