INDUSTRY INSIGHT What happens once I The NDIS is exciting, but it also can be a confusing time trying to understand how everything will work from here. Over the next few editions of Touchstone, we’re going to break down the finer details of what to expect. In the last edition, we focused on how to get ready for your planning meeting and now we’re going to focus on what happens once you have your plan. 1 NDIS Once you’ve heard from the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) that your plan has been approved, you’re on your way to receiving services! Plan 2 NDI S Plan 3 Service Provider After your plan has been approved, the NDIA will work with you to implement your plan. The support to implement your plan could be provided by a Local Area Coordinator, a funded support coordination service (like CPL’s My Life Consultancy), or a family member or friend. Whoever you choose will help you to connect with community, mainstream or funded supports. Next, you or the person supporting you to implement your plan, will call the service providers that you’re interested in working with to set up a meeting. You could have an initial meeting with more than one service provider. As the NDIS is focused on delivering choice, you choose which service providers you want to work with for each part of your plan. Your meeting could be in person at a service centre, at your home or over the phone, depending on the service provider. You will talk about what’s in your plan, the goals in you plan and how the service provider can support you. 6 Touchstone Winter 2017
