joy. Leading developmental psychologists consider all forms of play to be an integral part of a child’s maturation. Of course, the physical benefits children receive from yoga are endless. With their pliable joints and naturally flexible muscles, a safe yoga experience will allow for exploration of their natural range of motion through functional movement with their own body weight. Creating a play-based yoga program for children brings in the benefits of yoga early on in life, giving children the tools needed to develop and maintain a healthy relationship with their body, a deeper understanding of their emotions, and the opportunity to welcome and feel joy throughout their lives. Possibly the best part is that we get to do all sorts of fun activities like dancing to music with a particular dance move, or a friendly game of “Yoga Freeze Tag” where all those frozen must come in to a yoga pose – a great way to incorporate both touch and yoga!
