MOBILITY MATTERS

THAI YOGA & ATHLETIC TRAINING

BY DANIELA GOODE

If you ask any athlete or fitness enthusiast what it takes to achieve their goals, they’ll tell you it takes hard work, dedication, and a disciplined training regime.

A closer look at their training schedules will often reveal a heavy emphasis on weight training and/or cardiorespiratory conditioning, in order to get their desired results.

With the exception of a few sports and movement practices, many of us are skipping out on flexibility and mobility training.

Even when designed by a personal trainer, more exercise programs don't include enough activities to help clients obtain and maintain optimal levels of mobility.

Yet flexibility is one of

the primary

components of fitness.

Why Does Mobility Matter in a Conditioning Program?

Given the stresses of daily life, and the added demands placed on the body during training sessions, mobility can diminish over time, as we gain strength and higher levels of fitness.

When asked why mobility training is overlooked, most personal trainers will admit that they either don’t fully understand how to incorporate it into their training programs, don't have time during their sessions, or feel their clients aren’t interested.
