Any special reason you
chose to acoustically cover
“Numb” by Linkin Park on the
Decade 2 release?
CRISPIN: I would definitely say I selected that song
because if you listen to the lyrics in that song i think
that a lot of people would think that the lyrics would
be a struggle in a relationship I think that they’re right,
but i think the struggle is with the relationship that you
have with yourself. I’ve always felt that was how I con-
nected with the lyrics in that song. Being a person that
struggled from the same afflictions that Chester suffered
from, I feel like I’ve always related to that song and we
just wanted to pay homage to Chester’s passing by do-
ing that song.
Is doing that song a bit
cathartic for you?
CRISPIN: In some way it is. I think it’s a never ending
battle or struggle. I think if you could realize that it is
real, the more you can figure out different ways to battle
it. That’s really the bottom line.
Do you think it’s something
society is finally starting to
wake up to?
CRISPIN: What has worked for me and I’m not say-
ing this will work for every person, but I don’t write a
diary, what I do is write music. Music is my diary, and
for me it’s more complex than that. In this world, in the
time that we are here, you have to be able to find things
that give you purpose. I think for every human being to
live without purpose, you are going to be in a bad spot,
you’re going to find yourself in a place of darkness.
When you find your purpose, that thing that makes you
happy and gives you a reason to wake up in the morn-
ing, it’s going to make things a lot better. That’s what I
figured out in my journey so far.
For that moment, until then next. I think it’s always
going to be at different plateaus. But getting to that mo-
ment, the moment to breathe is going to give you the
reason to keep pushing forward, at least for me any-
way. And I hope that other people can find that there is
that thing that keeps pushing them forward and gives
them a purpose on this planet.
