Meeting the legend that is “ KRUSHER ” JOULE .

By Linda Parker I first bumped into Stepehen “ Krusher ” Joule while I was out watching a rock band in my local town of Evesham , and to be honest , I think I was one of the many there that didn ’ t know who he was ( shame on me ). A friend of mine then told me the story of what this incredible man had achieved throughout his life and the ups and downs of the music world he had faced , and so i am going to share his story with you .

“ Krusher ” ( as he is affectionately known as ) Joule is a well known name ,
especially on the music scene since early 1976 , working as a freelance designer for great bands such as Motorhead , Girlschool , Sammy Hagar , Uriah Heep , Gamma , Blondie and the Sex Pistols .
Motley Crue ’ s “ The First Five Years ” and Twisted Sister ’ s “ The First Official Book ”. He also did tour programs for for AC / DC , Deep Purple , Robert Plant , Anthrax , Accept and Europe . He also has credit for designing the Monsters Of Rock Programs since 1986 and compared the event for a few years .
My first proper introduction to
Krusher was at the local Drunken Monkey Festival in Worcestershire , U . K ., in August , which is annually organised by Stu Evens ( vocalist with Stone Cold Killers and AC / DC trribute band , Soul Stripper ) and Mike Jurgens ( vocalist with Ozzy tribute band , Wizards of Oz ), to raise money for the National Air Ambulance . Myself and fellow DJ , THE HIGHLANDER , attended this back in August of 2017 . This guy has led an amazing life and I was about to find out why .
Krusher ‘ tick ’, and why he felt it so important to continue to support these local , smaller festivals that especially supported the unsigned artist , and what ’ s kept him supporting these band for countless years .
Krusher told me that he absolutely loved comparing the Drunken Monkey Fes- tival , and that this had been a very good year selling tickets and the festival was gradually building up to something special . Krusher is a highly amusing man and said that even though we had had a little rain at the festival , he was amazed at the thunderstorm when Sabbotage , a Black Sabbath tribute , were playing on stage . Life couldn ’ t pay for the special effects like they had .
His design credits include designing album covers for bands such as Hawkwind ’ s “ Live ‘ 79 ”, Gary Moore ’ s “ Dirty Fingers ” and “ Live at the Marquee ”, Iron Maiden ’ s “ Live after Death ”, Ozzy Osbourne ’ s “ Diary Of A Madman ”, “ Speak of The Devil ”, and “ Bark at the Moon ”, “ Japan ” and Black Sabbath ’ s “ Born Again ”. Ian Gillan , the then vocalist of the band , was quoted as saying “ I took one look at the cover , and puked !”.
Krushers ’ s accreditation didn ’ t stop there . While working for Kerrang ,
he designed a series of biographies for bands , including Iron maiden ’ s “ Running Free ”,
Krusher was at The Drunken
Monkey comparing the festival , and introducing the bands on the main stage , as he had done for a couple of years . He always amused us all in the crowd of his wonderful stories of life in the world of rock and metal , and the wonderful main stream bands he had worked with over the many years he has been in the business before he introduced the bands on the main stage . They were as powerful as the independent bands that were performing on the smaller , but no less powerfl , Tower Stage that Krusher frequently visited during the festival in support .
I wanted to find out just what
Krusher is a great supporter of up and coming bands and was very impressed with the local band Piggy Dodar , who were all aged just 11 years old and whose festival opening set on The Tower Stage , had blown away many people and certainly impressed the talent scouts and media . The news company , Midlands today , had
