NEW FOR 2017! REVIEW Senior Photojournalist Tim Schumann is back for more and brings another great show to Total Order. He catches up with the incredible new band, I Prevail. Now here comes a band that I have shot a total of three times over the past 2 years. The first time was in August of 2015 and truth be told, I wasn’t really impressed. The second time was this past August at Warped in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and this time I really paid attention. Needless to say, the hooks were embedded, so you might imagine how I felt when I learned that I Prevail was coming to El Paso, Texas, on No- vember 10, at none other than Tricky Falls, my stomping grounds!! I Prevail brought their Rage on the Stage Tour to our little West Texas town with a vengeance. Supporting acts were Page 38 Escape the Fate, The Word Alive and We Came as Romans. Now if you’re a fan of hard/metal core music, then you know that each one of these national acts are headlining acts any day of the week. To me that’s what makes this tour above and beyond. I’ve been going to shows since 1972. I’ve seen one or two opening acts in my tenure. People, for the most part, are at- tending to see the headlining act, so acts that are supporting sometimes are not well received simply because they are up and coming and/or unknown. I mean I saw Van Halen open for Black Sabbath in ‘78 and look how that turned out. But that certainly wasn’t the case on this particular evening. People had been lined up since mid- day outside the venue. Doors were at 7pm and in no time, Tricky filled up to the point they opened the balcony, which they only do for a sold out show. When Escape the Fate hit the stage at 8, it was as if someone lit a fuse. The joint just imploded and it was quite the sight; pushing and shoving, a circle pit right from get go. Security had their hands full with all the insanity on the other side of the barricade, not to mention the crowd Page 57
