AFTER a 13 year HIATUS , MOTOGRATER RETURNS WITH THE 2017 comeback record of the year .

David Ellison is no stranger to comeback stories and talent . I guess that ’ s why one of the first bands on the new EMP label group is the 2017 comeback story of the year . After the departure of Ivan Moody , and a changing recording industry , Motograter became an after-thought , even to the point of having to play a ******** battle of the bands , to get on Knotfest . Perserverance has paid off with the AMAZING release of “ Desolation ”! Noah “ SHARK ” Robertson sits down with Total Order to take us through the unpaved path to redemption .
It is amazing how Motograter captured the vibe of the first record , yet “ Desolation ” is current and relevant .
SHARK : I appreciate that . We took a lot of care and put a lot of effort into making sure that we pleased the old school fans . We still had that Motograter vibe but we put a modern twist on it . There ’ s a little something in there for everybody . There ’ s heavy stuff , melodic stuff , and some ballads . It ’ s all over the place but man , we tried hard to make the fans happy .
What was the vibe like in the studio while you were recording the new release ?
SHARK : It was stressful . Things have changed a lot in the music business . It ’ s not like a record label is just handing you a huge advance to make your album . We were completely on our own , at first , making this album . It cost quite a lot of money to make . It cost over 10 to make this album . Also , a normal studio process , we ’ re all in the studio at once for an extended period of time making the record happen . We were kind of spread out . We were flying all over the country to different places making this album . A few of the guitar parts were recorded here in CA . Some of the guys flew to Denver to record with the producer LaRue . I flew to Michigan to record with Josh Whitman . So , we were kind of spread out but it was really cool to see it start to take shape . We were in the pre-production phase for a while . It ’ s kind of hard to wrap your mind around
