NEW JERSEY

Salvete, my name is Molly Moran and I am the Publicity Coordinator for the New Jersey Junior Classical League Executive Board. The NJJCL Executive Board has been holding monthly meetings since September (skipping December) and will continue to have them until May. With regards to the board members, everyone has been working diligently in their respective positions and I foresee that pattern continuing until the end of the term.

There were two regional volleyball tournaments in the month of November. The Southern region of New Jersey titles their tournament “Venus De Volleyball” with a corresponding trophy. Gateway Regional High School hosted Venus De Volleyball (Pennsauken and Clearview in attendance) on November 5th, 2018. Gateway was victorious. The Southern region schools of the state also went ice skating on January 25th, 2019. On November 14th, 2018, Franklin High School hosted a Central/Northern regional meeting with their own volleyball tournament (although they do not have the same tradition as the Southern region with Venus De Volleyball nor do they have their own trophy). January 18th, 2019 was the American Classical League (ACL) Advocacy Day in which several New Jersey Latin teachers visited their Congressional Representatives in Washington DC to discuss the value of Latin and why it should continue to be taught in schools.

As for upcoming events, Certamen will take place at Princeton University on March 19, 2019, and our State Convention will take place at Benjamin Franklin Middle School on May 4, 2019. To see more of the fun New Jersey is having, come visit our website, njjcl.weebly.com, where our upcoming events and our own Torch (which we call the Nuntius Newsletter) is posted. You can also follow us on Instagram (njjcl_), Twitter (njjcl_), and Snapchat (njjcl) or find us on Facebook (New Jersey Junior Classical League).

Salvete,

Tempus fugit! North Dakota’s JCL state convention is in less than a month. The planning process has been going well. The location and schedule are set, and registration has been open for a few weeks now. It’s exciting to be a part of the planning process, and I can’t wait for State Convention. Although JCLove is always within each member’s hearts, February, a.k.a. the month of love was the perfect time to host a JCLove event. One of our local chapters baked and decorated cookies a few days before reality. The cookies were just as good as they looked!
