SECRETARIES' AND WEBMASTERS' CALL

NATALIE HILDERBRAND

On January 12th, I hosted a Skype call for local and state JCL secretaries, webmasters, and communications coordinators. About six people attended. We introduced ourselves, then I discussed what I have been up to as NJCL Coco, then I opened it up to discussion about various issues related to our offices. It was great to join my fellow officers in brainstorming ways to increase transparency among JCL chapters and states and to expand the roles of secretary and webmaster. Later in the year, I plan to host at least one more Skype call, possibly split by office. Thank you to everyone who attended this Skype call, and if you would be interested in joining a later one, be on the lookout for information on social media!

HISTORIANS' AND EDITORS' CALL

JESSE HOGAN AND ANIKA PARK

During the Parliamentarian Skype Call, we discussed our favorite holiday food, constitutional amendments to the NJCL Constitution, Robert’s Rules of Order, and how to best disseminate information or present amendments. We discussed running for nationals, and I encouraged everyone to run for national office as well as email me the information of anyone interested in running for national office in his or her state. We shared recruitment tactics for people running for office.

NJCL Historian Jesse Hogan and Editor Anika Park hosted two joint Skype calls: one for local historians/editors and another for state officers. In the call, Jesse and Anika discussed topics ranging from submitting photos to the national Scrapbook to thinking of new content ideas for publications! The call was structured similarly to the Historians/Editors workshop at NJCL convention. They also got the chance to answer questions from officers, whether that be how to better receive publication submissions, or how to run a statewide version of the Photo of the Month contest. The unique input from different local and state officers allowed for enriching discussions from which Jesse and Anika were also able to learn. The positions of Editor and Historian both require creative drive and utilize similar softwares, skills, and content. Through the call, Anika and Jesse also shared the overlap between the positions and made sure to discuss the necessity and benefits of their collaboration.
