Torch: U.S. LXVIII Spring 2019 | Page 16

My term has gone very well so far! I have enjoyed being in contact with so many JCLers from all across the country. My main duty has been the monthly website contest. Each month, I receive and score submissions and return feedback to each webmaster. In January, I began recognizing one webmaster per month who has done well in the monthly website contest; that webmaster can share tips for website upkeep on Facebook and answer questions any other webmasters have. I also attended Spring Planning Meeting in Virginia with my fellow NJCL officers, which was a lot of fun. We enjoyed planning for National Classics Week, convention and more!

NJCL COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

NATALIE HILDERBRAND

How is your term so far? What have you been doing in the past few months?

What's your favorite part about being communications coordinator?

The job description of the Coco includes many different areas and is somewhat vague. I love having the freedom within my duties to brainstorm creative new ideas for keeping up communication within JCL. I also love staying in contact with people from all across the country, whom I can help with duties as webmaster or secretary and who can help me come up with new and exciting ideas to keep up communication within the JCL.

Is being a national officer what you expected?

As a national officer, it has been exciting and unexpected to become such good friends with my fellow board members, even though we have such diverse backgrounds and live thousands of miles apart. I have loved getting to know the board and other JCLers I would not have otherwise met, and I can’t wait for convention in Fargo to grow closer and to make more new friends!

What's your main goal as communications coordinator?

During national convention, when JCLers from across the country are all together, the JCL feels a strong sense of cohesion that tends to die down throughout the year. As Communications Coordinator, I am trying my best to maintain that unity throughout the school year.
