Three members of the National Committee completed their second consecutive term and were therefore unable to seek reelection. Sue Robertson, the National Convention Advisor, had previously served two terms on the Committee and was therefore, according to the ACL Constitution, already a National Committee Member Emerita. The Graphic Arts Chair, Melissa Burgess, and the Certamen Chair, William Lee, each completed two consecutive terms and have therefore earned the distinction of National Committee Member Emerita and Emeritus respectively.
Ms. Dobbie Vasquez completed a term as the Communications Chair. Although she was eligible to seek reelection, she decided not to do so. Ms. Vasquez had previously served a term on the National Committee (at the time as Dobbie Nichols). Having completed a second term (it is not required to be consecutive) she too has earned the distinction of National Committee Member Emerita. All four outgoing members of the Committee are now Members Emeritus or Emerita. The four new members who were elected to the National Committee are:
Certamen Chair: Jennie Luongo
Communications Chair: Robert (Bob) McDonald
Convention Advisor: Liz Bouis
Graphic Arts Chair: Jennifer Jordt
The Committee on the National Junior and Senior Classical Leagues elects its own officers each year. This year the Chair and Vice Chair were reelected. Ms. Catherine Sturgill is the Committee Chair. Mr. David Jackson is the Committee Vice Chair.
At the 2018 NJCL convention, delegates approved 9 amendments to the NJCL Constitution and 3 amendments to the Bylaws. If you have an amendment proposal for the National Junior Classical League Constitution, Bylaws, or Chapter Handbook, now is the time to act! As members of the National Junior Classical League, your opinions and incites are valued.
