After a long yet exciting Nominations Committee, campaigning began! Chalk covered the ground, candidates’ loyal surrogates clamored to hand out pamphlets and buttons, and blue painter’s tape became an invaluable commodity. At Meet the Candidates, JCLers got to chat with candidates in an informal setting about new ideas, experience, and topics as trivial as favorite colors.

By Thursday afternoon, many undecided voters were counting on one event, Candidates Open Forum, to help their decision. For just over an hour, the candidates were peppered with general and office-specific questions, serious and silly, ranging from “What input would you like to have on the new NJCL website?” and “How would you address an emergency at a service colloquium?” to “What is your spirit animal?” Following Open Forum, JCLers headed into fellowship to cast their votes.

The 2017-2018 NJCL Board is as follows: president: Mark Bechthold (WI), first vice president: Timothy Hahn (NH), second vice president: Collin Kane (FL), communications coordinator: Lynn Ahrens (OH), parliamentarian: Sarah Lee (TN), historian: Ana Ohnersorgen (NV), and editor: Jade Woods (LA). For the positions of president and historian, neither nominated candidate reached a majority of the vote. Therefore, after an application process, Mark Bechthold (WI) and Ana Ohnersorgen (NV) were appointed as president and historian, respectively.
