CANDIDATE BIOGRAPHIES : FIRST VP
Vibhu Kolli , Brookfield Academy
What do you do outside of Latin and school ?
Aside from reading Certamen rounds to underclassmen and procrastinating my AP Chem homework , I volunteer at the Emergency Department of a local hospital and hospice . I also intern at a research lab in the Medical College of Wisconsin a few days per week .
What position are you running for ? Why did you choose to run for it ?
I am running for First VP . It has been a privilege to serve as your First VP for the past four months , and I want to continue my work in this office . I truly believe the position has so much potential to help our organization grow , and I hope to pass down the torch of the JCL to future members .
Why are you the best candidate for your chosen position ?
My experience as WJCL First VP and as my school Latin Club ’ s parliamentarian has introduced me to the responsibilities required of an officer . Over the past few months , I have launched two new publicity contests for state , created a comprehensive promotional packet , and contacted numerous schools about starting classics programs . Furthermore , I have worked with President Shir Bloch to design a state convention guide for new chapters . If reelected , I would build on these achievements and introduce new ideas to improve membership and publicity .
If elected , what changes would you implement ? What would you keep the same ?
The current board works together so well , and I want to maintain this positive dynamic so that officers can continue enhancing their ideas through collaboration . As for new changes , I have a three-part plan to expand WJCL membership .
First , I intend to implement Fall and Spring Forums in addition to state convention . Since state is so early in the year , it ’ s easy for local chapters to become disconnected from the state organization . Fall and Spring Forum would help delegates bond with their officers through colloquia and participate in activities , like Ludi or Open Certamen , which aren ’ t available at state . Next , I want to create a “ year-in-review ” video to spotlight our chapters ’ activities , help prospective chapters gain insight into the JCL , and provide an easy way to exchange ideas . Finally , I would personally contact clubs without officers to help them form a board , focusing on each school ’ s specific situation to ensure the maximum possible increase in membership . All in all , if reelected , I would strengthen the lines of communication between the state organization and local chapters and would continue improving membership and publicity efforts .
You ’ ve been sent home at your parents ’ expense . What did you do ? I slept through a fire alarm and all my friends thought I was dead ( true story ). What was your favorite album of 2017 ? My favorite album is by far Dua Lipa ’ s self-titled debut album . Which Greek or Roman god are you and why ?
I would like to say Poseidon because I ’ m a huge Percy Jackson fan , but in reality I ’ m probably Morpheus . I am not complaining , though- there is no better gift than sleep junior year .
Stranger Things or Riverdale ? Riverdale for sure . Bughead and Varchie all the way ! Anything else you ’ d like to share ?
I am so thankful for the opportunity to serve as your First VP for these past few months and hope to be able to continue my work in this office ! Don ’ t forget to cherish every moment of convention , even amid all the chaos !
