CANDIDATE BIOGRAPHIES: FIRST VP
PAGE 7
Hope Judge, Madison West
What do you do outside of Latin and school?
When not doing Latin or schoolwork, you will likely find me in
my room with my cat. I have always loved poetry and will
pick up a pencil every now and then and get to writing. I
practice yoga and theater in my free time, as well as spend a
lot of time with my friends and family.
What position are you running for? Why did you choose
to run for it? Why are you the best candidate for your
chosen position?
I’m running for the 1st Vice President of the WJCL. Entering
Latin my freshman year, I was already thrilled to see what
my brothers had loved so much about it. Instantly, I grew the
same attachment to the classics that I’d seen them express
over the years. I take pride in my ability to talk to people and make friends, and I think that
friendliness is one of the defining characteristics of this position. I am currently the 1st Vice
President of Madison West and have doubled our club attendance as well as grown our recruitment
for State. I was asked to run for historian when there was a vacancy, and while the outcome may be
more predictable, I am running for 1st VP to be 1st VP.
If elected, what changes would you implement? What would you keep the same?
I have already written some emails to arrange publicity in the Isthmus newspaper. I understand that
the requirements of this position include recruitment and publicity, and my teacher, the wonderful
Mags, and I have arranged to talk to the Edgewood High Latin teacher to get them re-involved in the
WJCL. Right now, I think it’s important to get some chapters from up north, such as Sister Bay and
Green Bay, as this is the WJCL, more than Milwaukee Junior Classical League. If this means holding
one board meeting a year up North, it would be worth growing our entire delegation to all of WI.
You’ve been sent home at your parents’ expense. What did you do?
My friend Parny and I accidentally shattered our hotel window after practicing our duet of the JCL
creed so loudly and off-pitch.
What was your favorite album of 2017?
Flower Boy by Tyler, the Creator. I loved this album because while Tyler has had a history of
obscene music in the past, he reinvented himself with this album that touched a lot of social and
political issues seen today.
Stranger Things or Riverdale?
Riverdale. I really like both shows but I grew up reading the Archie comics. it’s so fun for me and my
friend, Chelsea, to find all the changes and reinterpretations of the characters. Also, Stranger Things
really confuses me.
