LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Salvete, amici,
I’m so excited to be in Madison with all of you! If this is your first convention, be
prepared for a crazy three days: you can’t possibly anticipate the sleep deprivation,
camaraderie, and wild hijinks you’re about to experience. If you’re a returning
attendee, I hope you have a blast both meeting up with old friends and making new
ones.
Your WJCL board has worked very hard over the past few months to make this
convention happen. President Shir Bloch, who became our leader in September after
Mark Bechthold was appointed to the national board, maintained order at monthly
meetings and promoted communication between the officers. Vibhu Kolli, your First
VP, created promotional packets and publicity contests at a record pace despite only
joining us four months ago. Second VP Silma Berrada led us to a first-place spirit win
at nationals, organized service projects across the state, and introduced a Second VP
blog. Parliamentarian Simran Khunger recruited 12 candidates for WJCL office, as
well as ratifying multiple amendments throughout the year. Sabrina Zhong, our
Secretary, took thorough and hilarious minutes at board meetings and, for the first
time ever, at national convention, in addition to running the WJCL Twitter account.
Treasurer Alex Castroverde sold WI merchandise at nationals, raising hundreds of
dollars in revenue for the WJCL. She also created the new online bazaar, offering
local chapters another platform to raise money for their clubs. Stefania Potter, your
Historian, documented memories from state, nationals, and JCL events throughout
the year. I published five issues of the Torch: WI, helped local chapters create their
own publications, and ensured that the rest of the NJCL knew what we were up to by
sending regular updates to the NJCL Editor. Finally, Tech Coordinator Michael Ginn
kept our website in tip-top shape and introduced the WJCL’s first-ever campaign-
poster contest.
Whether this is your first convention or your last, I hope it’s full of incredible
memories. Remember to own every second.
Ex imo pectore (from the bottom of my heart),
Margot Armbruster
