CANDIDATE BIOGRAPHIES: EDITOR
Victoria Toledo, Brookfield Academy
What do you do outside of Latin and school?
Outside of Latin, I am part of my school’s science
club and Science Bowl team. I also dance on my
school’s poms team, and even joined the tennis team
this fall, just for kicks (it was an interesting
experience, having never played before in my life).
Outside of school, I take piano lessons and teach
myself ukulele when I have time. During the summer,
I frequently volunteer at local libraries, assisting in
the children’s summer activities by setting up movie
days, helping with arts and crafts, or giving the kids
prizes for reaching their summer reading goals.
What position are you running for? Why did you
choose to run for it?
I am running for the position of editor. I chose this position because I absolutely love organizing
pages with colorful themes. Additionally, I have a strong passion for writing and correcting grammar,
so hey, that’s neat.
Why are you the best candidate for your chosen position?
My background on my school’s yearbook staff for four years straight gives me ample experience for
becoming editor. I have also earned awards and recognition for my writing at local poetry contests
and even have a piece published online at Teen Ink.
If elected, what changes would you implement? What would you keep the same?
If elected, my main goal would be to make the Torch feel closer to home. I want to include more
schools from within the WJCL in new articles, such as school shoutouts, in order to familiarize
ourselves with what’s happening in our own state. Although I will still reach out regularly to other
states, I will try to contact local schools more often.
What was your favorite album of 2017?
My favorite album of 2017 was undoubtedly Gone Now by Bleachers. Getting ready in the morning, I
usually jam out to “Don’t Take the Money” and “I Miss Those Days.”
Which Greek or Roman god are you and why?
I would say that I relate most to the Greek goddess Persephone. She loves springtime and sunshine
and flowers, but also is the queen of the Underworld for half of the year, and honestly? You go girl.
Stranger Things or Riverdale?
Stranger Things all the way. Who wouldn’t want a show where a bunch of nerds meet a psychic girl
who basically saves the state of Indiana? Plus, I finished the second season within days of it coming
out, so I’m a pretty diehard fan. Sorry, Riverdale.
