PAGE 15 CANDIDATE BIOGRAPHIES: HISTORIAN Sophia Eckdale-Dudley, Tosa East What do you do outside of Latin and school? I spend lots of time playing my cello and I'm involved in multiple cello ensembles, though I also like to read, go hiking, and spend time with my friends and family. What position are you running for? Why did you choose to run for it? I’m running for Historian this year. I chose to run for this position mainly because it seemed like a good opportunity to get more involved in the WJCL and I would also enjoy the creative aspect of being Historian. Why are you the best candidate for your chosen position? I have been Historian for my chapter both this year and last year, so I already have experience with the position. More generally, I am very thorough, so I would make sure to fulfill all of the responsibilities that come with being Historian to the best of my ability. If elected, what changes would you implement? What would you keep the same? I would like to find a way to connect more with middle-schoolers who are not already learning Latin so that we can show them all that JCL has to offer. I also think it’s great that the WJCL has a wide variety of contests and competitions at convention, so while that’s something we could always add to, I think we should more or less keep those the same. What was your favorite album of 2017? Better Living Through Strings by Joe 2.0 Which Greek or Roman god are you and why? Clio; I really enjoy learning about history, and it’s one of my favorite aspects of taking Latin. Stranger Things or Riverdale? Stranger Things
