What do you do outside of Latin and school ?
Outside of Latin and school , I am a Lincoln-Douglas debater and am also involved in forensics . Both of these activities showcase my passion for public speaking . In addition , I am a music enthusiast . I have been playing the piano from the age of 6 , and I have been singing Indian classical and choral music since I was 7 .
What position are you running for ? Why did you choose to run for it ?
I am running to be WJCL Parliamentarian . I chose to run for Parliamentarian due to my passion for Latin and my desire to uphold the WJCL ’ s principles . I see the Parliamentarian as a person who has to be accountable and help with the electoral process . Thus , being a huge fan of our organization ' s functionality , I chose to run because of its meaning to me . I love the JCL because of the core values it instils , like teamwork and friendships , and being an officer would allow me to uphold them .
Why are you the best candidate for your chosen position ?
I think I can best achieve this duty for 2 primary reasons . First , my leadership qualities allow me to make executive decisions . For example , I participate in Leap Leaders , a club at my school where we volunteer at elementary schools , and help determine its activities and organizational aspects . I also participate actively in student council . Secondly , I am determined and always hold my ground . I think I will be able to help build upon the constitution and help the JCL values grow . As an LD debater , I know how to make coherent , sound arguments which will benefit the members of the WJCL , which is what matters the most . Again , I love representing what I believe in , and a large part of that is understanding classical culture .
If elected , what changes would you implement ? What would you keep the same ?
As parliamentarian , I would have several responsibilities , like recruiting people to run for state positions , managing the WJCL constitution , and conducting the electoral process at convention . The biggest thing I hope to uphold is the Crash Course constitution . It is a simple breakdown of the WJCL constitution , making it easier for WJCL members to understand . A couple of things I hope to achieve is a better connection with the Tech Co , in terms of having a more interactive constitution on our website , like a discussion board . Also I would increase recruitment by using posters to engage more of our members to run for a position . Furthermore , I think working with the 1st Vice-President on a blog for post-convention is a great way to attract more members .
What was your favorite album of 2017 ? My favorite album of 2017 was Ed Sheeran ' s Divide album . Which Greek or Roman god are you and why ?
I would be the Goddess Athena . I love how she uses her wits , rather than her fists to negotiate disputes . Even though she ’ s also known as the Goddess of war , I am more sold on her intellectual abilities . I love using my brain to fight for what I want and to help others .
Stranger Things or Riverdale ? Honestly , Game of Thrones has my heart . However , in this scenario I ’ d pick Stranger Things .
