KENTUCKY

On Nov. 8 the Kentucky Junior Classical League held its annual Fall Forum, which is basically state convention in a day, a preview for state convention in February, and a way to hold us over. We all crave it. On this day at Covington Latin School in Covington, Ky., we practiced cheers with some of our favorite Ohio JCL-ers, played dodgeball and ninja in the far too echoey gym, took a fascinating tour of the adjacent cathedral--which rivals those in Europe--got far too competitive over a scavenger hunt designed to make people socialize, listened to the very interesting lectures of grad students from the University of Cincinnati, played Certamen, worked on a service project, and debuted Certudi, the ingenious meshing of Certamen and Ludi stolen from the brilliant mind of Ali Murray from Illinois JCL. There was fun to be had all around.

Aside from Fall Forum, the KJCL has been very busy. Local chapters have participated in the AIDS and NEDA (National Eating Disorder Awareness) Walks, taught third-graders about mythology, carved pumpkins for local charities, made grand floats for homecoming parades, and trick-or-treated for UNICEF, raising over $100. A good number of KJCL-ers joined Ohio JCL-ers at Kings Island for a publicity stunt in which they performed JCL cheers in front of the scary people, thereby scaring them. Mostly, we have been missing NJCL. Why is it so far away? Ruiqi He, this is my personal plea to you on behalf of the entire KJCL: can you make NJCL like next weekend? We miss everyone!
