The OJCL state convention was held March 8-10 at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North. Over six hundred excited JCLers, SCLers, and adults gathered to celebrate our love for the Classics. Our service projects at convention were Project Linus and Cards for Hospitalized Kids. Whether it was playing Kahoot! or outbuzzing the competition in Certamen, I can confidently say that everyone had fun that weekend. In addition to convention, the OJCL has had local Certamina and participated in National Classics Week activities.

Greetings from Tennessee! We have had an incredibly busy April with National Classics Week, our state convention, and preparation for nationals.

The TJCL had a great National Classics Week. Quite a few chapters hosted events like Hercules movie parties. Some of our officers made videos for each day of NCW which can be seen on our Instagram (@tjcl). These videos celebrated ancient cities and the TJCL had fun seeing them every day.

The entire TJCL had an absolute blast at our state convention! We had two successful service projects. In one of our projects, we collected school supplies for the program LP Pencil Box to be given to teachers in public schools. Many schools donated to help the cause and it was a very successful project. Our second project was coin wars where the state officers attempted to avoid donning the "punishment suit" by getting more coins than dollar bills. This money was all donated to the organization Lions Club. We had a great state convention and our executive board has been busy preparing for nationals.

Starting in the fall, the TSJCL has been hard at work spreading the TSJCLove! After a board meeting on September 15th, and altering the rules for competitions like illustrated quote, cartoon, and vocal, we began planning for state convention with the Winter Board Meeting on January 12th. Until state convention, each area (A, B, C, D, and F) held area convention, and there were many Certamen contests at schools like St. Mary’s Hall and St. Andrews. The areas also participated in service projects, such as Project Linus, in preparation for state convention.

The TSJCL held its annual convention at Anderson High School from April 5th to April 6th. Despite some April showers, the convention was a grand success, with Latin students competing in 19 academic competitions, entries in graphic arts, creative arts, and Ludi. The TSJCL donated books for the Inside Books Project, hoping to promote rehabilitative values in the larger community, enjoyed colloquium sessions about Roman mysteries from author Steven Saylor, and even hopped into a bouncy house!
