Salvete, amici!
In January, I worked with the officers to arrange Skype calls for local and state officers. In each Skype call, we discussed common issues found in the specific position and how to troubleshoot them. One piece of advice that I loved the most was that you should pay special attention to the underclassmen/younger JCLers. If the passion for JCL is encouraged from the start, the number of Latin Club/JCL memberships can maintained or even improved! Additionally, the officers and I worked diligently during Spring Planning to prepare for nationals. To name a few, we selected GA speakers, filmed for National Classics Week, and discussed new content for Nationals. Aside from all of this, the highlight of these past few months was joining ACL for Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill. I had the opportunity to lobby for two bills that impact world language learning in schools as well as promote ACL’s centennial and National Classics Education Day. I am so glad to have started the year off with #JCLove! Thank you to everyone who sent me warm-hearted messages these past few months.
The National Board has been working hard to connect all you members of the JCL with one another as well as us! Most notably, we each have hosted Skype calls to speak with both local and state officers. It was nice to hear feedback from officers to see what tools I need to release to help further publicity efforts.
We have been able to finalize the National Classics Week “passport” and a slate of activities that we hope you will be able to enjoy while promoting the JCL. In the packet, you will see how each day of NCW is dedicated to an ancient city. There are several activities and service projects that correspond to each day that we hope you can take part in. Please be sure to document all of your efforts and post them on social media with our NCW hashtags and tag us! We want to show how strong and dedicated the JCL is. Let’s make this NCW as fun, engaging, and spirited as possible!
