The start of the JCL season means that service and spirit are in full swing for the 2015-2016 year. There are a couple differences that you will see in the service competitions planned for this year. First, the Club of the Month competition now features three service projects instead of one and provides step by step instructions on how to complete the projects. Frequent posts are featured on the “JCL Service and Spirit” Facebook group -- I encourage you to join if you have a Facebook. If you do not, please email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to send you reminders about submission dates and projects. All information about Club of the Month can be found at bit.ly/jclCOTM. I encourage you to submit to Club of the Month as it is a great way to share with the rest of JCL what exciting activities your chapter puts on, and it also helps chapters to gain more ideas. You can submit anything that your chapter engages in -- not just the suggested activities!
Next, I am happy to announce the launch of a state community-service competition. The goal of this competition is to have states working together in various service projects and to further integrate service into our JCL experience. Information about this new competition can be found at bit.ly/jclSOS. In addition to the state community-service competition, State of the Season as the sister competition to Club of the Month was launched as well. State of the Season encompasses all activities done by the state on top of service and spirit initiatives. So far, you have all done a wonderful job of putting on projects for your chapter. Baton Rouge Magnet High School of Louisiana held a car wash for free, but accepted donations. At this car wash, someone asked if the JCLers could wash their dog instead of their car. BRMHS members gladly obliged and washed a cute dog -- what a fun experience! Hendersonville High School of Tennessee placed first in the September Club of the Month competition because of their high successful membership drive and the continuation of their annual school supplies drive.
As we move into the colder season, it is important to remember those who need comfort and warmth. Gilbert Classical Academy from Arizona did an awesome job with this. The chapter collected and cleaned stuffed animals for children who went through traumatic experiences and did not have a stuffed animal. This project is special because a stuffed animal can brighten up a child's day everyday for a long time. This was an awesome idea for a project and I am so excited to see more.
I encourage you to not only host activities and service projects in your chapters and states, but also submit them to me in contest form or just in an email to [email protected]. These submissions allow me to build a database of activities to share with the rest of JCL, so we can continually inspire each other and have fresh ideas.
