If you add a dose of merengue
and Latin American tempera-
ment, tropical colors and facets
of the Dominican carnival to the
traditions of the classic French
cabaret, you get the Bravissi-
mo show, which is performed in
the resort town of Puerto Pla-
ta in the Ocean World entertain-
ment complex. In terms of scale,
this show is smaller than Mou-
lin Rouge, with 30 perform-
ers who wear 120 different cos-
tumes during the show. However,
in terms of the skill of the par-
ticipants and the special effects,
it is at the same level as the for-
eign classics.
During the almost three-hour
show, the dancers embody the
most diverse images of Hispan-
ic and Latin American culture —
from Andalusian gypsies and
the impudent Carmen, to clas-
sical salsa and the tradition-
al Dominican dance genres the
merengue and bachata, Brazil-
ian samba and Puerto Rican reg-
gaeton, and you will have to re-
sist the strong urge to jump up
from your seat and start danc-
ing! Add to this an unlimited
amount of beer, wine and rum
included in the ticket, and the
casinos and karaoke that await
the guests of the entertain-
ment complex following the per-
formance, and don’t expect to
get any sleep! Before the per-
formance begins you can take
a picture with the dancers in
the lobby.
