#9–10 / 2020 TF TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK ELEPHANTS IN THE SAVANNAH Picturesque hills, swampy lowlands, floodplain meadows during the rainy season, the Maasai steppe with acacias and sprawling 300-year-old baobabs, on the branches of which lions, leopards and pythons love to rest - this is how Tarangire National Park looks like, a popular place for northern safari in Tanzania. The park is crossed by the river of the same name which often dries up in the dry season, but attracts in the rainy season many species of animals and birds — from buffaloes and cheetahs to dwarf mongooses and kingfishers. But the main local attraction is the herds of elephants, which can be seen bathing in the river or walking in the savannah. The oldest female elephant in the world who gave birth to twins also lives in Tarangire Park - according to biologists, this happens extremely rarely in the wild. You can get to the park not only by land, but also by air - there is a small takeoff runway on its territory. 1 1 1
