Walrus Audio Bellwether Announced at NAMM and released months later, the Walrus Audio Bellwether stands as a tribute to analog delays past as well as a feat of design. Not only is the pedal expertly designed and tuned (there are over 30 trimpots on the board), but no stone was left unturned in Walrus’s quest for the most feature-laden analog delay on the market. Of course, the requisite time, repeats and level controls are on there, but there’s also an almost-unheard-of tone control. What’s this, tone control on an analog delay? You’d better believe it. Joining this is a tap division knob, a full-featured modulation section with controls and a toggle switch to turn it on and off, as well as an expression pedal parameter selection switch. The unit contains two outputs for stereo processing, as well as an effects loop to process other effects in-line with the delayed signal. Of course, the Bellwether’s best feature is its tap tempo, because not many analog delays have this feature. Tap tempo is a digital construct and therefore, it’s much easier to write the tap code into the rest of the program. Walrus Audio decided to buck this tradition in favor of a robust feature set. The result is the most exhaustively controllable analog delay on the market. ToneReport.com 25
