SOURCE AUDIO STINGRAY MULTI-FILTER While my favorite Source Audio stomper is capable of many traditional phaser sweeps and Uni-Vibe-like undulations, the multi-peak mode is where it really gets wild. In our Andy’s demo of the unit from 2014, he masterfully turns the guitar into a sample and hold step sequenced vowel generator. He then assigns the expression pedal to morph between sawtooth and random waveshape generations. These settings are fantastic for big sustaining chords. The filtering flaps, yawns and enunciates wildly like the half machine lip moves of a robot speaking in nine-volt tongues. In some ways, this reminds me of the synthy bits at the beginning of The Who’s “Who Are You.” The guitar becomes even more synth-like with some tweaking of the frequency and resonance controls.
