If the current state of effects technology has taught us anything , it ’ s this : don ’ t fear digital . For years , players swore by ancient tape echoes and analog delays , shuddering at the thought of using any modern technology for ambience . While those old school devices are amazing and deserve the reverence they get , we all know how amazing digital delays have become , and many guitarists now eschew large mechanical devices for small , incredible tape delay emulators . Why should it be any different with dirt ? So many of the new age fuzz , distortion , and overdrive boxes sound incredible and offer great features in a practical and useable format , and there ’ s no reason we shouldn ’ t expect them to get even better in the years to come .
