H o ly G r a i l N a n o / N e o The original big-box Holy Grail is the one that started it all. Shipping in the charming, trademark wooden box, the first version of the Holy Grail featured a large single knob to control reverb level and a switch to select between Spring, Hall, and Flerb modes, the latter being a combination of flanger and reverb. The spring mode is remarkably accurate, making it a perfect choice for surf players or anyone needing a backup to their amplifier’s spring tank. Hall mode provides everything from subtle room reverb to lush, spacious ambience. Flerb is a unique sound—an acquired taste, but a useable tone for sure. There are several reverb flavors that include modulation, but none of them sound quite like Flerb. The Holy Grail is a great choice for players seeking a quality, no-nonsense reverb pedal. With a single knob controlling the reverb level, you don’t have to worry about endless tweaking or presets. While you can find used versions of the original Holy Grail, it was reintroduced in EHX’s Nano series, making it more pedalboard-friendly. If you prefer more conventional sounds, the Holy Grail Neo trades Flerb for Plate mode, while keeping the super simple format. ToneReport.com 31
