I know , I know — I probably had you at “ Supro ,” right ? Well , let me tell you about it anyway . The Supro 1600 Supreme is a great little amp that packs a punch .
The 1600 Supreme is designed to replicate the 1959 model that Keith Richards has apparently been playing for years . It comes handsomely covered in vintage style with a compact cabinet containing a custom 10-inch speaker . There is also a matching extension cabinet available that contains a 12-inch speaker , which fits perfectly under the 1600 . The 1600 Supreme is powered by 6V6 tubes , giving you 25 watts , and offers two channels . There is an input for use of a single channel , and an input that allows you to run both channels in parallel , giving a bit more gain and fullness .
The controls are about as simple as you could hope for : Volume 1 , Volume 2 , and Tone . This is not a bellsand-whistles amp , but it makes a good platform for your pedals . The Tone knob has a good , musical sweep to it , dictating the amount of high end response to my ears . It was easy to find a setting that worked well regardless of the volume level or the channel in use . By adding volume , you can get the amp to growl , bark
and bite pretty easily .
You can select the single or double channel by plugging your guitar into the corresponding input for the one you would like to use , allowing for both lower and higher gain settings . Supro has given you the ability to use a footswitch — by using an A-B or an A-B-Y switch , you can select which input you want to use without having to physically pull and plug your guitar cable each time you want to change channels .
Running this amp with humbuckers and singlecoils yielded very good results . The amp has a natural mid range peak that
