IBANEZ DFL DIGITAL FLANGER Digital and Flanger are two words in my mind that should never go together. Those of you who have tried the A/DA Flanger or the Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress know exactly what I’m talking about. This pedal in its name, 1989 McDonald’s Happy Meal toy color scheme, and incredibly dated design, puts this one firmly on the list. Let’s also not forget the L.A. Metal, which is another offering from the same line. MAXON FIRE BLADE SERIES If this isn’t one of the corniest names for a pedal line you’ve ever heard, I’ll be damned. It sounds like a B-stock anime series that never made it past the third episode. That rather garish bright orange footswitch is what takes the cake here, with the rest of the pedal being tolerably dated. PIGTRONIX ECHOLUTION (FIRST MODEL) While this is an awesome pedal in its own right, I can see why Pigtronix opted for the second version enclosure from a pure aesthetic standpoint. It looks like a modern caricature of a campy ‘50s sci-fi TV show, with an unusual color scheme and a running “bubbly” aesthetic. ToneReport.com 23
