WALRUS PROJECTOR With the Walrus Projector, I think we’ve officially hit peak “amp in a box” overdrive. I mean, if we’re discussing a pedal that recreates the tone of an amp that is built from a re-purposed film projector, where else can we go? But none of that will matter if the Projector really nails the sound of the amps made from Bell & Howell projectors. I’ve heard these amps in the hands of Blake Mills and Dawes’s Taylor Goldsmith (when he was touring with Conor Oberst). They sound like a cross between a Tweed Deluxe and an AC15—beautiful at one moment and ready to explode at the next. If the Projector sounds even half as awesome, it’s going to be a hit! DIGITECH NAUTILA DigiTech has been on a bit of a streak lately with new pedals. Summer NAMM saw the release of the new Carcosa Fuzz and the Nautila Chorus/Flanger. As sweet as the Carcosa is, it’s the Nautila that has me swirling. DigiTech managed to cram six potentiometers (two concentric) and one mini switch onto the face of the Nautila. Combined, they should be able to dial in more sounds than there are chambers in a nautilus shell. The unique Drift knob will allow players to morph between wave forms and holding down on the silent switch will allow you to speed up or slow down the modulation speed—like pressing your thumb down on the proverbial tape flange.
