CIOKS CIOKOLATE PROS: Super-quiet and well-built. Low profile mounts under almost any board. Large variety of taps, including two AC taps. CONS: Unconventional power cables may be difficult to replace in a pinch, price is a bit higher than other supplies. 26 TONE TALK // Though Cioks has only re cently become extremely prominent on gear forums, the company has actually been around since 1991, back when guitarists used to fill up surge protectors with individual power adapters. The Ciokolate represents the company’s most ambitious power supply to date, containing 16 isolated taps, many of which are adjustable. Like the Walrus Phoenix, the Ciokolate offers only one 18volt output, but it is the only power supply that offers a 24-volt tap, though players cannot use 24 and 18 volts at the same time. The high-current taps are plentiful, and there are two AC taps as well, for running what few AC-powered effects are out there. One strange feature about the Cioks supplies is the power cables themselves—the feature a non-standard RCA-type phone plug on one end instead of the standard dual-2.1mm plugs. This can make finding replacements a tad difficult on the road, but resourceful players with backups should have no problem for tours of any size. Power Up: The Definitive Power Supply Buyer’s Guide
