The Walrus Audio power supplies utilize a custom-wound toroidal transformer—the marquee feature of both supplies. Overseeing the winding of the transformer allows Walrus Audio’s engineers to keep the noise floor down and offer the cleanest power regulation possible. The Aetos features eight taps plus a courtesy outlet, and the Phoenix features plenty more; 15 total isolated outs—with two high-current nine-volt taps—decorate the front, along with one switchable 9–18-volt tap and two switchable 9–12-volt taps. With so many pedals able to run at 18 volts nowadays, one might expect to see more than one 18volt tap, but one there is. This may deter players that seek to power multiple highheadroom devices, such as EP boosters and most Catalinbread pedals. WALRUS AUDIO PHOENIX AND AETOS PROS: Ultra-clean isolated power, tons of taps. CONS: Lack of voltages other than nine volts. ToneReport.com 25
