Karma Suture and
EarthQuaker Devices
Dispatch Master
The Karma Suture is a unique fuzz/overdrive/boost pedal. Based on the
Interfax Harmonic Percolator, it features an extended range of controls with
knobs for Diodes, Density, Output, and Input. These help you get a huge
range of sounds from a germanium and silicon transistor. Want a gorgeous,
gritty clean boost? You got it. Chunky overdrive? Yep, it’s in there. All out,
devastating, feedback-laden fuzz? Oh yeah. The best part about the Karma
Suture is its ability to generate even-order harmonics. It’s never been easier
to get harmonic feedback, especially with a hollowbody guitar. My favorite
part about the Karma Suture is that no matter how scuzzy you dial it in, you
can still hear every note. There’s nothing wrong with fuzz pedals that make
chords indistinguishable; those are a lot of fun. But the Karma Suture allows
you to hear each note ring out through the madness. As a bonus, it works
great with Vox amps, and any Vox aficionado knows it can be tricky to find a
dirt box that matches up well with their favorite AC-type amplifier.
I make no secret of my great love for the EarthQuaker Devices Dispatch
Master. I’ve mentioned it in previous articles, and I’ve been using one for
every gig, practice, and recording session for the past four years or so. It
has beautiful sounding reverb and delay in a compact, easy-to-use package.
There is no tap tempo or ability to save presets, but you don’t need that
with this one. Just enjoy the sheer beauty of the ambient tone it delivers. It’s
the perfect pedal for volume swells, and pairs superbly well with the Karma
Suture. With that combination, I can get clean-boosted slapback, Gilmouresque solo tones, abrasive solos à la Jonny Greenwood, and much, much
more. If I only take two pedals with me, these are the ones.
