Z. VEX DOUBLE ROCK For those who require true compactness along with a ridiculous amount of tonal flexibility, Z. Vex’s dual-channel Double Rock, designed at the behest of Dinosaur Jr’s J. Mascis, ticks all boxes and then some. J.’s original version was merely a pair of Z. Vex Box of Rock pedals cascaded into each other, but Z. Vex improved upon the design by incorporating its Distortron and Super Hard-On pedals into the mix as well. Each channel offers all three distinct circuits, switchable in any combination so that they can be mixed and matched in any way one might desire, for anything from sweet clean boosting, to Marshall-flavored crunch, to full-on face melt. Each channel also has an independent “Subs” switch for precise tailoring of low-end content. Like many Z. Vex creations, one can pick up a Double Rock in either the fancy hand-painted version, or the more affordable Vexter version (which still features a delightful artistic rendering of J. Mascis on the front, at least). If you can only have one, get this one. 14 TONE TALK // Just One Dirt: 5 Pedals to Consider When One is All You Need
