Way Huge Pork Loin Remember that guy we talked about earlier, Jeorge Tripps? You know, he had the company called Way Huge? Eventually, he left that company and his analog ways behind and went to work for Line 6. Thankfully, he eventually went to work for Dunlop and together, they relaunched Way Huge. He reissued some of the Way Huge favorites (some faithful, some modified) and then set about to design some new Way Huge offerings. My favorite of the bunch is the Pork Loin. Heck, it might be my favorite overdrive ever. The Pork Loin is magical, because it approximates the sound of playing through a multi-amp setup. It makes any tone bigger and more complex, and it does this by splitting your signal between a “British preamp” section and a mellow overdrive section. Players can then use the Clean control to find the perfect balance between the two. In practice, this means folks can have a heavy drive tone and blend some clean in for definition. It also means that users can stack other overdrives into the Pork Loin without excessive noise or loss of dynamics. The Hot Cake into Pork Loin is nothing but magic. GOTTA HAVE ‘EM ALL I’m not claiming that any of the following are better than the Centaur, TS808, or even each other. This list is not the end-all be-all list of overdrives. These are simply overdrives that have inspired me in my playing and that I think deserve to be considered for the pantheon of greatness. Readers: You owe it to yourselves to try each of these at some point. 36 TONE TALK // 5 Cult Classic Overdrives for your Collection
