Since the DM-1 Delay Machine in 1978, Boss has been the king of pedal-based delay effects. The DM-2 analog delay released in 1981 is one of the touchstones for bucketbrigade delay pedals. In 1983, the DD-2 Digital Delay was the first ever digital delay pedal. First ever ! And the DD-3 Digital Delay has been in constant production since 1986 (19 years by my math) and has been a staple of pro pedalboards for most of that time. Based on this history, it should come as no surprise that Boss flipped the script yet again with the introduction of the DD-500 Digital Delay. The DD-500 features 12 different delay modes (including analog, tape, slow attack, Tera), 32-bit, 96 kHz operation, 100 percent analog dry signal path, USB connectivity, a graphic display, and even a 60–120-second looper. It’s everything you could want in a delay pedal, in a pedalboard-friendly size with legendary Boss dependability. 22 TONE TALK // 8 Ways the Pedal Game Changed in 2015
