for recording as well as live. You can do
straight up fuzz sounds or more weird, amp
about to explode kinds of fuzz so it is useful
for recording as you can dial in a few
different tones quickly and easily.
not the usual recipe for germ-dirt. Tell us
a little about the fuzz side and the
squelchy fixed wah filter. Are they based
on any classic circuits, or built from the
ground up?
The new MK2 version has slightly smoother
response in the upper midrange and a
tweaked Tone control. The range of the
Texture control has been improved and I
switched to top-mounted jacks and DC
socket.
CL: Awesome! Glad to hear you are digging
the Double Feature! The fuzz is an alloriginal design. I took the typical rulebook
for Germanium based fuzz designs and
threw it out the window. There is a lot of
interesting stuff you can do with
Germanium transistors but most people
stick to following the way old circuits used
them. The fuzz in the Double Feature
sounds more focused because I set up the
overall gain and EQ structure in reverse
TR: I am not blowing smoke up your
tailpipe—the Double Feature is one of my
2015 standout stompboxes for live use. I
have never heard a germanium fuzz that
sounded so focused, tight and modern—
