After over 20 tours and two
more self-released albums,
in 2015 the band signed a
deal with Will Swan of Dance
Gavin Dance’s label, Blue
Swan Records. The band’s
Blue Swan debut, Pilot
Waves, arrived soon after in
October of that same year,
placing it on the Billboard
Heatseeker’s chart for the
first time.
At the end of that year and
spilling into 2016, Icarus the
Owl was at a crossroads and
had a decision to make—so
far, its members had been
a band for seven years
and endured numerous
lineup changes. The band
had obtained a reputation
for being together for a
long time; to the industry,
that’s not the greatest look.
Its members dealt with
several options: changing
their name, slowly forging
onwards and upwards or
quitting altogether were on
the table.
ItO had already released
four full-length albums
and each had been more
