Let ’ s cross over from rock to our friends in the hip-hop realm . Released in 2006 and directed by the dearly departed Adam Yauch under the alias Nathaniel Hornblower , the Beasties passed out camcorders to fifty audience members for a sold out show at Madison Square in 2004 . The only rule was they had to keep the camcorders running for the entire show . The footage was then cobbled together into a lo-fi masterpiece ( even more audaciously , the camcorders were all recovered and returned to the store for a refund after filming ). The line between artist and audience continually gets blurred , particularly when you see other artists and celebrities making cameos in the
crowd . Doug E . Fresh and Run DMC make appearances in the front row , but perhaps the most memorable in hindsight is a young Donald Glover , showing a formative moment before started releasing his own music as the Childish Gambino .
An honorable mention goes to The Song Remains the Same , the concert film Led Zeppelin released when the band was at its peak . Arguably though its 2007 concert “ Celebration Day ” has more of an emotional punch . Reunitng at London ’ s O2 in honor of Atlantic Records ’ Ahmet Ertegun , pangs of nostalgia hit from the opening film paying tribute to deceased drummer John Bonham , then things quickly kick into gear when you hear his son Jason
