After settling on the basic structure
of the circuit, and I tried a lot of
configurations, it probably took around
six months of experimentation to narrow
it down to three circuits that I thought
would be good then finally settled
on one, which underwent a few more
adjustments until I was 100 percent
happy with it.
The first objective was achieving this
with a completely different circuit. The
second was to do it with a simple and
direct signal path.
I also wanted to use passive tone
controls, I prefer them in an application
like this where you’re not looking to
alter the original tone too much, just let
the guitar through in the simplest way
possible and tweak it to suit the amp,
not turn it into something completely
different.
Although the original idea was for a
lower-gain pedal, during the design
stage it became apparent that it could
also be pushed harder into mid gain
territory which makes it a great all round
drive pedal for those that are looking to
cover a lot of tones in one pedal.
It’s always a bit nerve wracking bringing
out something new but I’ve had great
feedback so far, first from the demo
guys and later customers that now have
them so I’m really pleased. Onto the
next one!

This turned out to be a challenge,
generally, the more components you
have in a circuit the more scope you
have for sculpting the sound, so with
something like the Carrera which is a
relatively simple circuit each component
makes a huge difference to the overall
tone and feel of the pedal.
