The great thing about funk
as a musical genre is that it
is an incredible foundation
for boundless six-string
creativity. It is the basis for
so much modern music,
from hip-hop and new jazz
to all manner of rock, pop,
and electronic genres. It is
a highly malleable style that
can absorb and integrate
outside influences with ease.
So please, experiment. Every
funk guitarist is different and
brings their own thing to the
groove, so don’t be afraid to
make the funk your own and
use what you have on hand
to make it happen. Keep
on the one and stay in the
pocket, and anything else
you want to do is fair game.
