TS100
Carvin’s beautiful and flexible stereo tube
power amp, the TS100, is unique in that
it was designed to function as either a
guitar amplifier or a hi-fi amp for use with
a home stereo setup. As with most Carvin
products, it is only available direct from
the manufacturer, thereby cutting out the
middleman and offering a tremendous
amount of bang for the buck. The TS100’s
tube complement consists of a quartet of
12AX7s in the preamp and a quartet of
EL34s in the power amp, but it can also be
re-biased for 6L6s, or even both tube types
at once, with one channel set up for each (as
long as it is only used in stereo mode). This
offers some extremely unique possibilities
for blending tones in stereo. Further
functionality is added with selectable
output impedance for each channel on the
rear of the unit, and individual volume and
presence controls for each on the front
end. The Carvin TS100 is an excellent and
affordable option for adding some tube
depth and saturation to any modeling or
pedal-based rig.
