MXR
CUSTOM BADASS
MODIFIED OVERDRIVE
MXR holds arguably
the quietest legend in
the pedal industry. The
company isn’t quirky
like Electro-Harmonix,
and there are no five-
year wait lists that add
an aura of mystery to
the product lineup like
a boutique builder.
MXR just constantly hits
home runs in the form of

intuitive, great sounding
and easy-to-use pedals.
The Distortion III has
been around long enough
that some players may
not even be aware of
its existence, but it’s a
fantastic pedal. It starts
with overdrive and gives
way to distortion, and
it works beautifully with
another MXR product, the
Custom Badass Modified
Overdrive. Yeah, its title
is a mouthful, but you’ll
be smiling when you step
on it. The CBMO features
familiar gain, tone, and
output controls, but it ups
the ante with a 100HZ
cut or boost control
and a Bump switch that
enhances lows and mids.
It will meld into any rig,
and it sounds great with
other gain stages, such as
the Distortion III. Ask me
why I sold those two and I

reason. In fact, I should
just buy them again,
especially when they cost
less combined than some
single stompboxes out
there.
