The Deluxe Deluxe Plus is just that , a new “ deluxe ” version of the Mr . Black Deluxe Plus . In short , it takes the one-two punch of reverb and tremolo and allows you to select either one individually .
The Reverb on the Deluxe Deluxe Plus is modeled after an old Fender spring reverb unit . Because of this , it offers a much livelier reverb sound than what you would get out of the spring reverb in an amplifier . It ’ s certainly not subtle , but considering the graphics on the front of the pedal , I don ’ t think that ’ s what Mr . Black was going for here . The voicing of the reverb is bright and splashy but not so much that it gets in the way or overpowers you ’ re playing . There is only one control for governing the reverb in the Deluxe Deluxe Plus , and it basically covers the mix of the effect . Concerning decay and tone , you get what you get , and you don ’ t have a fit . Luckily , the reverb sounds very natural , and it has just the right amount of treble and spring artifacts . With the potentiometer set between 8:00 and 9:00 , you get a nice subtle reverb tone . Sure it has a pretty long decay , but it fades nicely and doesn ’ t get in the way . Once you start to dial it up from 10:00 and
beyond it just gets splashier and surfier . When you crank the reverb control beyond 2:00 or 3:00 , you get a real feel for how long the decay in this thing really is . Based on my extremely unscientific testing the reverb doesn ’ t completely fade away until after about seven seconds . I had an absolute blast playing old Ventures songs and even a little bit of Dick Dale . With a Jazzmaster or a Strat , this thing makes for hours or surf-tastic fun .
The Reverb is very touchsensitive . When you hit the strings hard , you get a lot of effect . When you play more softly the reverb fades into the background and is much
