The Brothers Analog Gainstage is a collaboration between Chase Bliss Audio and Resonant Electronic Design. This pedal started in the mind of Peter Bregman. Peter had this to say about the origins of the project: “I’ve always loved sound, and I’m a super-nerd about the relationship between electronics and that of tone and texture. I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to use a lot of awesome vintage and modern studio gear as an audio engineer, and I first learned about electronics by apprenticing under a master tech, working on studio gear that cost more than my car. Getting to hear all those amazing tones and see “under the hood” of so many classic pieces of gear really shaped my ideas about audio circuits. I started Resonant Electronic Design with Wes Kuhnley to bring new circuits and tonal ideas to the pedalboards of musicians everywhere, and to give them alternatives to the “classic” pedals that everybody seemed to be using. All of the Resonant pedals (Graviton Boost, Manifold Drive, and Acceleron Fuzz) started out with a certain sound in mind that I developed a circuit around. I’ve always wanted to push the envelope with new ideas while still creating the best sounding tools, so Joel was the obvious partner to work with on the next evolution of standard boost, drive, and fuzz pedals.” When Peter initially approached me about collaborating on this concept, I was hesitant. I had never seriously considered working with another engineer on a release. This quickly changed when I listened to Peter’s pedals and learned about his design philosophy and the topology of his circuits. We decided that we would use his designs for channel A, and I would design circuits to complement his for channel B. Together I think we designed a pedal that is useful and innovative in both sound and function. ToneReport.com 33
