TOMKAT ELECTRONICS KILLER FUZZ & DAYDREAMER DELAY/REVERB Until recently, I was not familiar with Tomkat pedals. There are many pedal companies out there, and a lot of good pedals, but even someone like me probably won’t be able to try all of them. But every once in a while, something stands out, and I know I have to get my paws on it to put it through its paces. Such was the case with the Tomkat DayDreamer, an awesome delay-reverb combo pedal with cool graphics and LEDs. The reverb on the DayDreamer might best be described as an ambient spring type. It has the inherent pre-delay found in many spring reverbs, but there is a particular pleasant brightness and subtle modulation in the reverb tail. Combined with the analog-ish delay, you’ve got instant ‘80s ambience, albeit in the form of The Smiths and U2 as opposed to hair metal. In Freefall mode, the pedal does awesome self- oscillation, and it does so without the need for an extra switch, making the enclosure size friendly enough for most pedalboards with a little room. The Killer Fuzz is inspired by the Sam Ash Fuzz- Stainer, a unique fuzz variant. It’s a kick-ass fuzz that can do dramatic, in your face stabs, or more classic fuzz tones found on so many records from days of yore. The tone control is the real secret, as you can access a lot of sounds by moving the tone knob around and leaving the level and fuzz knobs in one spot. Using the Killer and DayDreamer together, you can do everything from epic Gilmour-esque lead tones to punked out, Clash-style riffs. They are extremely satisfying to play through and quite inspiring. And of course, they look really freaking cool. If you’re looking for something different, and seeking musical inspiration, I highly suggest you take a look at Tomkat pedals. ToneReport.com 29
